Snow Day Information

image of snowflakeI didn't anticipate having to explain this so quickly. I had planned on clarifying this in January but we have had some weather already and folks are confused! I am not sure if you are aware of a recent change or not, but I just wanted to make sure. I thought it best to explain a little more. There is a Superintendents update on the BCPS website about this as well as posting on all social media accounts for BCPS too!

At a school board meeting in October, the board gave the Division permission to deem a snow day as a Remote Learning Day for students if necessary. This may happen if we need to make up some school days so that we do not have to add days to the end of the school year calendar or so that we are not taking days away from already scheduled breaks. We have a “bank” of time that we normally use as snow day allotments but when that runs out, we start having to make up days. We have always had a Code 3 & 4 which for students means nothing more than schools are closed! Now with the recent changes to this, people are getting confused. The NEW additional codes that CAN be in effect are Code 3-Remote Learning day or a Code 4 Remote Learning day. These could be necessary for those special circumstances. It will be announced on local media as we normally do. We WILL still have normal snow days with no work expected. (that is what we are experiencing now) For those “special” situations (Code 3 or 4 with REMOTE Learning) the teachers will send out special, hard copies of work that needs to be completed if this type of code occurs. You should have this in your possession to keep at home by January 8, 2021. It will be marked specifically for these “Special Snow-Remote-Learning Days. We will most likely only start with 2 days of work. IF we start having a lot of bad weather, we may need to send more later. Please keep it in a special, safe place in your home. EVERYONE would need to complete this special, required remote work and turn it into their teacher, no matter what rotation day it may be (whether A or B-Day), This would be the only work required of anyone on those special days, nothing more. The "Special" work will be short and simple and it shouldn’t take a student long to do.

I will always update a message on ClassDojo of what needs to be taking place since this is all new. IF you haven’t signed up for Dojo or don’t know what that is, please contact your teacher about this App.

Overview:

Code 3-Students no school, no work! (this has always been the code up until now)

Code 3 Remote Learning- no school but students work on an assignment given by the teachers as “Special” Snow Day work- not their regular remote work. (These most likely have not been sent home yet as this is a new change- they will be in your hands by 1/8/21)

Code 4- Students no school, no work! (this has always been the code up until now)

Code 4 Remote Learning- no school but students work on assignment given by the teachers as “Special” Snow Day work- not their regular remote work. (These most likely have not been sent home yet as this is a new change- they will be in your hands by 1/8/21)
